Tips On Cleaning Up Your Home Quickly Before Guests Arrive
Friends or relatives just called saying they’ll drop by your home within the day for some chat? Looking around makes you worried, as your home doesn’t really look welcoming to guests. But fret not as there are quick and easy ways of making your home look cleaner and welcoming. Read on and learn a few tricks that won’t require you do some full housecleaning.
Get your home fresh smelling and eliminate bad odors. Open up the windows to let some air in. Get rid of anything that smells – trash, soiled clothes, ashtrays, etc. Use air fresheners liberally in areas where your guests are more likely to frequent. For an instant air freshening, bake some easy-to-make goodies in the oven. This too gives everybody something nice to munch on when they arrive.
You should focus on tidying up one room at a time. However, this doesn’t mean you should quit being a multi-tasker. You can have the washing machine work on the king quilt as you do some tasks in the living room. When heading upstairs, pick up a few items that belong upstairs. Try to work on different activities that can be carried out at the same time conveniently.
When ridding surfaces of dust and grime, remember to do it from top to bottom. Be it dining sets, counters, armoires, bookshelves, and others. This way, dust doesn’t settle on areas that have already been cleaned. But to minimize dust, it’s important to eliminate items which attract dust in the first place. Store inside cabinets, drawers, etc. Things that aren’t used regularly, like old books, glassware, and others.
Go around the house with a basket or sack in one hand, while the other hand picks up any clutter. Start with areas such as the entrance way, living area, dining room, etc. – places your visitors are likely to frequent. Once full, stash that basket or sack of clutter in the storage room, away from anyone’s eyesight. Then do a quick vacuuming or sweeping of the floor.
When you got some time left after cleaning main areas of the house, that’s the only time when you can focus on other areas. It’s likely for your guests to use the bathroom. So cleaning the mirrors, walls and others in the bathroom is more important than tidying up quilt set in every bedroom. Playing upbeat songs will help keep you moving. Never forget to give yourself some freshening up before the guests arrive!
If you got plenty of time left, continue doing small tasks. You may straighten the drapes, throw pillows, magazines and others. If you weren’t able to clean up everything, don’t dwell on apologizing to them for your house’s state. For sure they’ll completely understand if everything’s not perfect.
